I seem to always run into problems when cooking, like forgetting to pick something up at the grocery store. Or thinking that i have that item, only to get home and realize i don’t. So instead of going back to the store, either i save that dinner plan for another night, or see if i can make what I’m missing, and most times i can make it.
In tonight’s recipe it called for taco sauce, and me thinking oh i have those pre-made taco boxes at home, I’ll just use one of those. Only to find out that the taco boxes are just shells… seriously i have never bought just shells, so to the web i went.
After about 10 minutes of searching i came across a recipe that sounded good and i had most of the items i needed to make it, even though i was missing some ingredients it was vary tasty. I’ve made this a few times since the first time, and find that it’s much better than store bought, and i typically keep all the ingredients in stock so I’ll always have it when i need it. Not to mention a batch of sauce last’s us 2-3 meals depending on how much we use in one sitting.
What you need:
- 1 8oz can of tomato sauce
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 Tablespoon apple cider vineger
- 1/4 teaspoon sugar (you can also use honey or agava if your watching your sugar intake, it doesn’t take any flavor away)
- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika
- 1/4-1/2 teaspoon cayenne (if you want spicy go with the 1/2 teaspoon)
What to do:
In a medium mixing bowl add all ingredients together and mix until well blended (to save on dishes you can put in a jar with a lid and shake it till you can’t shake it no more. 🙂
Tip: Let your sauce sit for at least 20-30 minutes to let all the flavors come together, you can set in your fridge or keep on counter while you finish the rest of your cooking.
I hope you enjoy this recipe. Let me know what you think.
Until next time
